Speed
Speed is one of our seasonal locations, being manned only during harvest and when loading outbound grain. Brandon Thummel is the location supervisor of Speed.

The Speed facility originally started out with 8 steel bolted tanks that held 17 thousand bushels each and an old wooden elevator with the capacity of 24 thousand bushels. The concrete elevator was built in 1953 just across the road west of the old facility. The concrete elevator has grain capacity of 257 thousand bushels. At this time Speed had the capacity of 417 thousand bushels. In 1998 the old steel tanks were removed and then in 1999 the old wooden elevator was torn down. Speed boasts of having the tallest concrete elevator in Northwest Kansas, standing at 147 feet, and has one of the fastest grain legs located inside a concrete house in our area.

The lumberyard/coal yard was removed and then in later years above ground fuel tanks were set. These tanks hold 10 thousand gallons of no-lead gas with 10% ethanol, 10 thousand gallons of dyed low sulfur diesel. The old keytrol system was upgraded to optic in 2001. In 2003, a 6 thousand gallon tank was added and it stores clear low sulfur diesel. All low sulfur diesel sold at Rangeland fueling stations has a diesel lubricity added. This is a stand alone fueling station that is accessed only by Rangeland company cards.

Speed takes in hard red winter wheat, milo, and corn. Speed’s central location in Phillips County is a huge asset to our local producers during harvest.
